Weekend Recap: Too Much Fun

Welp, it certainly feels like Monday over here.

Maybe a little running humor could help.

You know you had too much fun on your weekend when Monday feels like the worst invention ever. And generally, I don’t mind Mondays. But this one just hurts. Hard.

However, there is one amazing reason to celebrate today: it’s the world’s most amazing woman’s birthday!

Happy birthday, Mom. You inspire me every day to be a better woman, and I love you more than words can say.

So, this past weekend here in NYC was non-stop action, starting with a much-anticipated girls’ night on Friday.  We went to a friend’s hip hop show and I felt like we were the embodiment of a cliché joke: “A blonde, a brunette, a red-head and a dirty-blonde walk into a bar…

and have a silly good time.”

This was the first Saturday all summer I haven’t woken up and immediately gone for a long run, which felt a bit strange, but I exchanged it for a sunny, charming brunch at The Place in the West Village with one of my best friends. I absolutely adore that area of the city and can never get enough of all the darling tree-lined, cobblestoned streets and sweet little cafes and restaurants speckled throughout. This is by far my favorite neighborhood of NYC.

And we found a little love along the path, too.

And currently, at the Kate Spade store in SoHo, they’re employing one of my fave nicknames (thanks, Albany friends — you know who you are) in their seasonal decor.

KS has a cool & colorful collaboration going on right now with NYC-based pop artist Craig Redman boasting a line of playful, youthful pieces specific to NYC life (think apples and taxi cabs).

This was a weekend of good restaurants, as Saturday evening brought me to Café Frida on the Upper West Side. This is one of my fave Mexican joints in the city, for both food and atmosphere: it has a lovely garden patio in back that seems to make a Summer evening just right. I love finding places in the city that make you forget you’re in the city at all, and this is one of them.

Then it was up on Sunday morning to tackle this week’s long run, which took me up and down the West Side Highway for two hours. It was a pristine morning, sunny and beautiful, and my 14 miles didn’t seem so long at all. The first 4-5 weren’t my favorite, but once I settled into the groove and shook off the traces of fatigue, I really enjoyed this run.

Sunday ended up being a lovely day, including a 5pm service at Hillsong NYC followed by an amazing dinner at Rosemary’s in the West Village. I’d been meaning to go there for a loooong time after hearing so many people rave about it, and it didn’t disappoint. It’s absolutely perfect. I’m not really an Italian food fan, but this place was truly a gem. It’s charming and open and airy and rustic in the best way possible, with a classy country feel and a farm on the roof. Love that! I kinda want to hire their designer one day, if I ever stumble into owning a house/apt.

This was a non-stop, super fun weekend full of some of my favorite people and places…too bad I just couldn’t wake up to another Sunday.

Hope you had a great weekend! What was the best thing you did this weekend?
