Friday Five

i’m always stoked for Friday (duh), but i’ve been especially excited for thissss particular Friday all week, as it’s the beginning of what i’m expecting to be an amazing weekend. so much good stuff going on! i’m headed upstate to the lake for the weekend, which is always one of my fave ways to spend time, but there’s a very special reason i’m traveling upstate this weekend…so let’s start with that.

*something i’m excited about: Christine’s wedding weekend in Saratoga!
one of the things i’ve been most thankful for since i’ve moved to NYC is that i’ve had incredible roommates, and Christine is my prime example.

we lived together for just over two years and became great friends, and i couldn’t be more thrilled to celebrate her wedding weekend in the charming town of Saratoga Springs (one of both of our faves, and close to where i grew up). i’m just itching to get upstate and start the festivities for this amazing friend and lovely bride-to-be!

congrats, my darling, to you and Chad. wishing you every blessing and happiness in the world. ❤

*something fun from my week: a concert at Summer Stage in Central Park.
on Wednesday night i saw Gavin DeGraw and Matt Nathanson at Central Park’s sweet outdoor concert venue, Summer Stage.

photoGavin put on suuuuch a good show — that boy seriously has one of the sickest voices i’ve everrrr heard. pure amazingness. i’m semi-sure we’re some sort of star-crossed non-lovers, as he grew up in the same area i did, lived in the same section of NYC as i do when he first moved here, and i randomly worked with his cousin when i lived in Colorado. oh, and i just love his music, sooooo, yeah. set the scene for a fictional romance, kids.

*annnd the bummer of my week: running injury. the.worst.thing. i have the exact same injury in my left leg as i did last summer/fall in my right. like, how does that even happen? shin splint/something my PT called “posterior tibial strain,” even though mine is higher above the ankle, more to the side below the calf. i managed 6 miles on it last night, but it was almost unbearable the first 2-3. and afterwards, well, forget about it. i’m limping like whoa. so basically, i’m taking things day by day and playing this October marathon by ear. there will be other races, and i’m not going to get crazy about it. if i’m not enjoying it and in so much pain, well, i can sit this one out.

*a lil lol. Uncorked Wine Co. in the West Village never ceases to amuse me with their street signage. humor is always appreciated on these NYC streets!

*inspiration, motivation, & just because i like.

Highs and lows of your week?

  1. Oh girl, I think that you have Peroneal Tendonitis. DON’T PUSH IT. Seriously. Ice, roll/massage, compress, and be gentle to it. Spin bike. I had it so bad one summer that I could barely walk. It’s from the repetition of rotating your foot, plus some lateral stabilization in the reactive muscles (the little micromovements that stabilize you over uneven terrain). Seriously rest it for a good week or so. If it gets worse, you could have a serious mess on your hands, but if you can nip it in the bud early, you’ve got a chance. BOO. I hope that I am wrong, but in case I’m not…..
On a lighter note, I hope that you all wear those outfits to the wedding. Because that would be epic.
I hope I didn’t freak you out, but I just don’t want you to make it worse! Good luck dear, and email me if you have any questions!

    • Thanks for the concern and for the insight, chicklet. I had it last year this badly in the other leg and it was def a bummer and slowed me down…. Praying it subsides ASAP this time. Yes you might hear from me! You’re sweet to empathize. 🙂

  2. That’s the pits about your injury 😦 It’s so hard to know when to push it and when to take it easy.

I love weddings when I’m in them. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that if I’m in the wedding, it’s probably one of my best friends so I’m extra super happy for them? I’m in two more weddings in the next 11 months and I cannot wait! I hope you have a lovely time this weekend, congratulations to your friends 🙂

  3. Oh! So fun that you’ll be in Saratoga, but boss was actually taking his wife there for the weekend (but I think it was with a secret, I want to watch the races, hidden agenda.) Have so much fun! I love all wedding festivities!

And ugh, take it easy on the legs for awhile. I’ve always found things are way worse when I ignore injuries. I’m still not back to 100% since my half marathon in May (crazy right?) Try biking for awhile, unless that hurts too! xoxox

  4. SENDING YOU POSITIVE RUNNING VIBES! NOO TO an injury. OMG I love weddings sososo much, they make me so warm and fuzzy. Similar to the feeling I got from your Peter and Tink photo.

  5. Sorry to hear about your nagging injury 😦 no bueno. I didn’t think I liked weddings until I broke the ice and finally went to one all the way through (usually I would sneak out early haha I know terrrrrible karma coming my way). Feel better!

  6. Running injuries are THE WORST! I’m stubborn and I like to push through them and make them worse because that’s smart and all, so I probably wouldn’t go with my method lol. I really hope you’re good to go for your marathon, but you’re right it’s not worth it if you’re in pan unfortunately 😦
