i love when Tuesday feels like Monday but it’s really Tuesday and you start the work week off one step ahead. #favoritethings.
two great things from my amazing long weekend:
1. ending on a high note, with a great run. after spending the weekend upstate w/ the boyfriend (and seeing my fam & girlfriends a bit as well), i still managed to get back to the city at 7pm last night and rock a felt-so-good run along the Hudson River. it was 40 degrees with zero wind at 7:30pm, and i just felt so darn good and had an amazing run. nothing like an adrenaline high to end an already-wonderful weekend.
i still maintain that MapMyRun loses some signal near Chelsea Piers, because i really don’t think i paced at 8:05…but i had an awesome run and felt great, so that’s all that matters to me. oh, and the fact that i matched my running clothes last night made me happy, too. the little things.
2. American Sniper. anyone else see this movie this weekend?
the boy and i had a great date on Sunday: gym, make lunch, go to the movies, go for drinks & sushi happy hour at our fave Japanese restaurant upstate, watch football with friends, drink wine and watch another movie. it was a pretty close-to-perfect day.
i really didn’t know much about American Sniper going into the movie, which i felt worked to my advantage, as i was entirely riveted to the storyline and further invested because i knew it was a true story. i thought it was really good, in that emotionally draining, necessary-but-hard sort of way, and i thought the acting was tremendous. it’s definitely heavy, but i enjoyed it and was glad we saw it.
it was one of those movies that made me feel really fortunate for my life, and for how removed i am from the horrors of war. i like when things force me into an introspective state and remind me of how truly blessed i am, and how important it is to love the people we have and not take any day of our lives for granted. in that sense, this was a huge success for me. i’d recommend it for sure.
Runners: have any good runs/races this past weekend?
Anyone see a movie lately?
This weather has been awesome! And it is still continuing. I woke up super tired, hungry and not wanting to run. But after seeing the temps I am so ready to go out there. I would love to know what your favorite Japanese restaurant is upstate. We are always driving around up there on the weekends and looking or something. Sounds like a perfect weekend!
are you in upstate NY a lot?? my fave in Albany is Hana, on Western Ave. so good, and has a great happy hour (both for drinks and sushi/apps).
Most weekends when we are in the city we like to drive upstate and just wander π
I know there are so many awe-inspiring and serious movies out there…but for some reason I really just can’t wait to see the JLo movie that comes out this Friday haha. Ever since my rough period this past summer the media I’ve been surrounding myself with has to be happy, thrilling, or funny — nothing sad. I know this is pretty normal but I have to work on that too, because American Sniper looks so good!
Yay for a great day with your boy! It’s always nice to have days with no distractions. I haven’t seen American Sniper yet, but I’ve heard such good things about it, I may just have to make it a date night soon (specially cuz my man would probably love it too!).
Also, great run!! I’m so glad it’s been a little warmer here finally too π
And so you’re in the loop: registration for the Brooklyn Half opens maΓ±ana, 12pm! I’ll be one of those frantic people trying to sign up right then! haha
i saw that last night and put it into my calendar — thanks for the reminder! you’re so sweet to think of me. π i ran it the past 2 years and love that race, so i def don’t want to miss it!!
I haven’t run it yet (last year I ran a different race on the same day), but I’ve been eager to try it this year based on all the rave reviews!
Congrats on the awesome sauced run Shawna!!! And I’ve heard good things about how the movie is put together. I had a solid race on Saturday wonky leg and all π
Have you seen the Imitation Game yet? If not, do it. Amazing. And always love a good run–it just makes everything happy π
i haven’t — my roommate saw it and said it was pretty good. i’ll have to check it out, thx!
That run sounds awesome!! Sadly no outdoor running for me, just too much snow and ice π¦
ahhh that’s such a bummer. we haven’t had much snow or ice at allll in NYC this winter, thankfully. i can handle the cold when it’s not accompanied by treacherous running paths! π
Yep im stuck at the gym for now so get in a few outdoor runs for me pls!!
I had a 6 miler on Saturday that was “meh, just glad to have gotten it done” BUT TODAY I had a 4 miler that made me feel like a GOD! It was so amazing. I saw Taken 3 over the weekend, and last weekend I saw Into the Woods. Both were great!
Yay for great runs! I want to see Into the Woods – I saw the Shakespeare in the Park rendition in Central Park two years ago and Amy Adams was the butcher’s wife- sooooo good. Hoping this one does that justice!
I really want to see American Sniper! I love seeing movies based on true stories and then later Googling the sh*t out of actual details for comparison.
I think we’ve been pretty lucky with the weather here in NYC (famous last words?) – is it usually this mellow in the winter? I’m probably just not used to the weather after living in freezing Chicago for 20 years, but I’m still curious!
We have been soooo fortunate with the weather in NYC this winter! It has been such a godsend to have 40 degree days in January!
Way to go on an awesome run! I really want to see that American Sniper movie – however I have been trying to save $$ lately (new year’s resolution) so I may have to wait until it is available to rent. π
