in case you were wondering…i’m still alive. well hey, friends.
i expected to take a lil blogging break when i went to Miami, and that somehow extended into an unintentional two week radio-silence. i’ve been doing a whole lot of living over here, just not much writing about it…and i’m okay with that. sometimes, you just need a break. buuut i did make it back alive, and in one piece, so no need to fret about that. ๐
so, here’s a lil Boca & Miami recap (just 2 weeks late, no biggie, right):
it was all sorts of amazingness: champagne-riddled, poolside-napping, ocean-view running, late-night giggling, dance floor shaking, sequin-clad, high-heel traipsing…all things girly and fabulous and carefree — that was how we spent a solid 4 days. it was a huge success of a trip.
we stayed at the Mondrian South Beach, which was an absolutely gorgeoussss property. super trendy, super clean & bright & airy & classy & just the perfect location for a girls’ weekend away.ย walking through the front doors of the hotel, a huge wall with the phrase “This Must Be the Place” greets you — and you immediately know that you are, undoubtedly, exactly where you want to be.
the pool and surrounding area was siiiick. i definitely could have used another week lost to just lying around right here:
…and our room was rad. we had a sweeeet balcony with an amazing view that was perfect for some pre-dinner birthday champagne celebrating & silliness.
i’d be content to go back to South Beach and just hang at the hotel the whole time! it was the perfect choice for a birthday weekend.
we also had a really fun dinner at Yardbird (please note that they hilariously have “runchickenrun” as their URL = LOVE THAT), this trendy, hipster-ish, Southern Table style restaurant that served all their drinks in mason jars (for the win) and had a very energetic, lively atmosphere and tremendous service. the birthday girl’s mom had called ahead to treat us, and we felt super loved and attended to, as several managers came over to our table throughout the night to make sure we were happy & loving life and had everything we needed. i’d definitely recommend this spot for a fun restaurant experience, whether or not you’re into Southern food. (their salads and drinks alone were worth it!) ๐
i really couldn’t have asked for a better weekend, and i’m so thankful for such fabulous girlfriends with whom to make such crazyfun memories. love you ladies! โค
and i did manage to get some workouts in on vaca, as sleep-deprived and hazy as i was, so i was stoked about that.
Day 1, in Boca: 3 miles (with some light speedwork) on the treadmill, followed by abs & a lil plyo
Day 2, in Boca: 5-6 mile run outdoors (so nice to run in warm weather again, and it wasn’t too hot, thankfully)
Day 4, in Miami: 3 (painful) miles on the treadmill at the Mondrian. i was the only one in the gym (which quite beautifully but also quite torturingly overlooked the pool area, where i could see all my friends lounging). apparently nobody goes to South Beach to exercise?
hopefully i’ll get back into the swing of blogging regularly again, after my little hiatus. miss all you guys!
xo.
Any Miami fans? What’s your fave hotel/restaurant/thing to do there?
Working out on vaca:ย yay or nay?
Yay! I’m so jealous of your WARM vacation. It’s in the negatives here so getting outside to workout (or just being outside) has been rough.
Great job getting in your workout! I say “YAY” to working out on vacation if you can get it in and still enjoy your time there. I’ve definitely been in a hotel gym where there’s nobody there (Macau!). It’s nice having your own private gym but makes you wonder what you’re doing in there!
haha yes, exactly! i was like, “i neeeed to be here…but apparently i’m the only psycho who feels that way…” ๐ Macau! amazing!
BIG YAY to vacation workouts and great job getting those in! It looks like you guys had a blast and what a great break from this winter nastiness up here. I’m actually from South Florida originally and for whatever reason have never made it south of Aventura. SOOOOOO close to Miami. (Unless you count a layover in the Miami airport…which I don’t.)
Guuuurrrllll do know how you’ve been missed but I know you were living it up on south beach lol. Miami looks good on ya’ and a total yay to workouts on vacation
We go to Miami every year for a break in winter. Absolute yay for working out while on vacay, esp in winter otherwise it’s too much treadmill time. I love Yardbird; food is delicious.
This sounds so awesome. We keep throwing the idea around of going to Miami. I am thinking it is a must now. So glad you had such a fun and fabulous time!
thanks, girl! and yes, you should go. it’s so great.
I love that you took a break to live and not live to write. Healthy choice indeed ๐ The colors of Miami are so vibrant and wonderful — the blues seem bluer, if you know what I mean. What a great trip to take this kind of year — Miami sounds likea dream right now.
Yay to vaca workouts and yay to MIAMI. Yay to warmth… yay to champagne yay to allllllll and yay to you posting!
Working out on vacation is a must, but usually I like to do things like explore, or hike which will count as my workout!! Glad you’re out there LIVIN!!
Oh I miss Miami! Glad you had fun!
This looks like such an amazing trip! I honestly can’t think of a much better way to escape the brutal NYC winter. I love going on vacation with my family, but there’s just something carefree/crazy/wild/fun about trips with friends that’s incomparable. And it’s great that you got some exercise in as well, especially in the warm weather. I normally avoid exercise when on vacation but last year I actually kept up with marathon training while in Aruba and secretly enjoyed it!
i love Aruba!! ๐
I’m playing catch-up now, but so glad you had a wonderful (and WARM) vacation! Looks like a great break from this horrible winter we’ve been having. I’m amazed you were able to get in some good workouts! I’ve always wanted/intended to be that gung ho about working out on vacay, but as soon as I get there plans change haha ๐
