time for the Friday linkup with the DC gals: Mar, Courtney & Cynthia. this week’s theme:
ONE: workout. i workout as many days as possible, which is usually 5-6 days a week, so this is a constant in my daily routine of all the fun things. workouts are basically the highlights of my day (along with my girlfriend dates), so i consider this fun time. and sometimes i combine girlfriend silliness with gymnastics just to double my fun. handstands 101: point those toes.
i’d say i run 4 days a week, do the Arc trainer once or twice, do at least 2 of what i call my personal “boot camps” a week, and add in some other weights or cardio as i feel so inclined…and abs maybe 3 times a week. i listen to my body while still pushing myself to work hard, so i’m pretty content with where i’m at here. i do want to start doing yoga, though! i’m a broken record with that one.
TWO: coffee. this is an every day, usually multiple times a day, thing for me. even when Starbucks spells my name incorrectly (which is frequently, because apparently nobody thinks a “w” belongs in a girl’s name), i still love them.
if a boy called me “Shanna,” he’d get the stink eye. from Starbucks, i’ll let it slide…although i’m considering giving them my nickname from now on and seeing how they deal with that.
THREE: Citibike. my love for Citibike runs deep, and it’s growing in leaps and bounds now that Spring is approaching. this is my absolute favorite way to get around the city (practically speaking, as i don’t generally run to my events, although i have been known to end a run at the bar if my friends are there). i ride it to and from work every day (unless it’s precipitating), and it’s the most glorious way to commute: blue skies, clear air, river view from the West Side bike path…i can’t help but smile to myself and offer up morning prayers. say whattttt, subway??
FOUR: girlfriends. if you’ve read pretty much any post on RTA, you know i’m obsessed with my girlfriends. they’re phenomenal, trust me — you’d be obsessed with them, too. they’re an integral part of my daily life — i either see, text, email, gchat, or call multiple of them daily, and using this strategy of constant communication, we have saved one another thousands of dollars — on therapy. š
anyone else relate to this?? seriously, it could be my life.
FIVE: eggs. lolllzzz, but really — i’ve been eating eggs on the regular since March 1, every dang day. can’t stop, won’t stop with this hard boiled life. i totally go on food kicks, and this is my latest. it also substantiates my belief that Veruca Salt would be the most fun character to play, like ever…chasing around those golden eggs and being all kinds of obnoxious and singing that fun “i want it now” song (which i was actually belting to the boy last weekend in the car…i think he loved it.) man, i love that little brat.
happy Friday the 13th, lovely friends!
Tell me a best part of your day!

Something you’re looking forward to this wknd?
I’m looking forward to my 10k race. It’s my first since my back surgery, and I’m really stoked. Other than that, I am grading papers. Blech.
hope the race went well, and that you felt great! kudos to you for running again after back surgery — i can’t imagine that was an easy task!
I really have to try one of those Citi bikes. I am sure I will crash into everyone as I try to navigate but it sounds like so much fun. And in this beautiful weather I think it would be great. Oh Shanna, I might have to start calling you that from now on š
Haha you won’t crash, silly. We can take em out on the Hudson bike path whenever you’re ready. š
That sounds like a plan š
Hahaha my namesake!!! š (Veruca Salt is my favorite.)
I eat eggs almost every day too! And that is a beautiful handstand. š
I wish they had Citibike around here. Yet another reason of millions why NYC is cooler than Baltimore.
haha yes, she is your namesake! she’s so much funnnn. thx for the handstand props! š
Eggs are pretty magical. You make that handstand look rockin. Plus those pants. We havy Divvy here, and if I lived further away I would use it, but as I live 3/4 mile from work, there is no reason to lol. Have a fabulous weekend!
thanks giiiirl! hope your wknd was amazing.
I soooo wish I had bike commuter options closer to my area. My town is too small though. Seattle did just get bike commuting options though, so I may have to explore the city on one soon! Happy weekend!
I need to meet you in Seattle!!
I eat eggs almost every morning too. I used to bring them to work but they don’t smell the greatest so I stopped that after getting some looks…haha. I loved that movie when I was younger. There once was a rumor that that girl was Alanis Morrisette. I wonder if I was the only one that heard that. I know it’s not her though.
Haha get out, I never heard that! Love fun facts like that. š
Love your post!! You’re amazing and so beautiful!! Love all your pics!! You are too cutie!! š Have a fabulous weekend!! I’m looking forward to March Madness this weekend!! XOXO
lol. I never give my actual name at Starbucks b/c they’ll never get it right!
What is Citibike?
I just returned home from San Francisco today and am happy to be back. We are having a gender reveal get together tomorrow and my hubby and I will find out if we are having a boy or girl! That is definitely going to be the highlight of my weekend. š
Citibike is a bike share program- you buy a membership and pick up a bike at a station, then commute and drop it off at another station. So awesome & soooo affordable- way more than the subway. I loooove SF!! Ahh gender reveal parties are soooo fab- have a blast and I look forward to reading about this! š
I have never done the Citibike but I was so happy when the city got them. I remember everyone was in a stink about them taking up space. Really? You’re more concerned about bikes than all that garbage piling up outside your building?! This past week has been an egg resurgence here. Since I can’t eat deli meat and tuna is limited on my dietary intake, I have been digging eggs. Sooo good!

Wow, that’s quite the handstand!!
Haha, Starbucks always spells my name wrong too, but I let them off the hook. It’s not their fault my parents added a silent ‘h’ in my name š
haha ohhhh, parents. so creative. š
We all must forgive Starbucks for all their transgressions (spelling names wrong, smelling like coffee for days afterwards, etc. etc.) because their convenience and deliciousness is unparalleled! They can do no wrong in my book. Love your handstand! Maybe one day I’ll be able to do that too. I know that takes so much work though, so you’re clearly dedicating time to your fitness routine! A good group of girlfriends is so important š glad you have that.
thanks for the handstand kudos — i have to admit my heels are against a wall, though! it’s been many years since gymnastics, so my free-standing handstands last but seconds as of now. i should work on that more. š and yessss, girlfriends are my favoriteeee and i’m so blessed.
i like the DC version of citibike (actually citibike is the NY version of bikeshare :)) a lot. it’s fun and easy to use! friends are THE.BEST.
