About

well, hey — i’m Shawna. welcome to my little corner of the world.

i’m running, dreaming & laughing my way through New York City – and loving every minute. i’m a Christian. runner. writer. reader. dancer. wanderluster. healthnut. student. young professional. eternal optimist. i grew up in Upstate New York, moved to Colorado for a quick stint after college to exercise my snowboard bum dreams, and have called NYC my home for the past five years. it’s fast, it’s fun, it’s crazy, and yes – i love it here.

so hi. thanks for reading me.

Run this Apple is my way of narrating my life in NYC, as well as holding myself accountable to both writing (my first true love) and leading the healthy lifestyle i so aspire to maintain. the name came as an expression of my passions for running and fitness, as well as to encompass my attempt to traipse around the world’s busiest, most frenetic city — the Big Apple.

& obviously, running is a defining aspect of my life. i can think of few things that rival the feeling of waking up at dawn and lacing up my sneakers for a mind-clearing run along the Hudson River. my journey as a runner was possibly predestined for me before my birth, as i come from a family of runners: my grandpa won a gold medal in the 1924 Olympics in Paris for the 100-yard-dash relay, and my father has always been a great runner and athlete as well. it was common for him to pull over the car on any given day, 5-10 miles from home, and have my mother drive the rest of the way as he zipped out to run it. the “there’s nothing quite like running” attitude that prevailed in my childhood household settled deep into my bones, and i thank God every day for the athletic ability He’s given me to continue this love affair with exercise.

what can you expect to read here? well, a little bit of everything, really: about running and other work outs; about my traipsing around the city & the never-ending activities it has to offer; about the various restaurants, wine bars, events, and other various jaunts i happen to stumble into in this urban playground. oh, and about travel – my wanderlust is entirely incurable.

feel free to email me if you have any questions about NYC, running, or want to be friends and bond over our wanderlusting dreams! shawna(dot)hussey(at)gmail(dot)com.

Look forward to following, and finding inspiration to break out of the half distance and go the full myself! 🙂

It sounds like NYC is where you belong, but being a Texas boy there is no way I could handle that type of cold.

Yes, God is good and it is great you give him thanks daily! That is awesome that your grandad won an Olympic Gold!
