Color Me Rad GIVEAWAY: NYC-MetLife Run

hey runner friends who live in the NYC/NJ area — i have a giveaway that just might interest you.

back in April, i gave away a pair of entries to a fun Color Me Rad run at the Jersey shore…and now i have another similar giveaway for the Color Me Rad run coming up on July 27th at the MetLife Stadium! this is the NYC-MetLife run, as NYC isn’t actually hosting one in the city this year. located in East Rutherford, New Jersey, it’s held at the stadium where both the NY Giants and the NJ Jets play their home football games, and should be a super cool venue for this rad event.

just a little refresher on what Color Me Rad does to spice up a 5K:

cmso13_05_009921_lg

Who they are: Color Me Rad is passionate about putting the “fun” in a healthy lifestyle and promoting events that will make anyone look forward to waking up for a race. they’re socially minded, too, and donate a portion of the proceeds to local charities. located in cities all across the US and Canada (and some international locations now, too!), you can check out their schedule here to find a race near you.

What it entails, exactly: you show up clean, and you leave looking like a kindergartner used you as a finger painting canvas. any questions?  🙂  take it from them:

“you’ll start off with a shirt as pure and white as your granddaddy’s dentures, and throughout the run, we’ll coat your chaffing thighs with Color Bombs of blue, green, pink, purple, and yellow until you come out like a tie-dyed hippie on the other side. each section of the run adds a new explosion of color to your clean, painter’s palate until you cross the finish line into a final blitzkrieg of color.”

csan13_03_022931_lgwhile i’ve yet to run one of these myself, i think they look super fun and hope to make it to one of them in the near future.

if this sounds like your thing, click on the schedule here, find your location, and register!

heyyy, friends.

i definitely didn’t intend to take that long of a blogging hiatus, but life has been a busy one lately! glad to be back. 🙂

things i’m loving about this week/my lately life:

*consistency with the shorter-to-medium runs. i have yet to start rocking the longer training runs for my half in a few weeks, but lately, the 5-6 milers have been doing me just fine. i’m happy with the consistency of my times as well, and although i’ve felt a bit more sluggish than i’d like and running on some tired legs, i’m hoping that changes soon! i had three pretty decent ones in a row last weekend (getting progressively more tired as the days went on!):

*the coolest script ever.
in looking for a sweet script for a potential tattoo, i stumbled across this girl’s blog/site called Neither Snow. she has such an incredible calligraphy talent and i’m absolutely in love with her word design. the flow and artistry is amazing. check out her site, as she has some sweet ideas for gifts or weddings or tattoos or anything you’d like writing on.

*a “Good” happy hour. a good happy hour spot is a great thing in NYC, and when you’re meeting your girlfriends, you want a cute, charming little place with decently-priced cocktails and a low enough noise level so you can catch up without shouting over each other.  Good Restaurant in the West Village offers all of that, with $7 House Cocktails (and they have a great selection), $6 glasses of wine, and an intimate little bar. i’ll definitely be returning here for some girl time.

goodnot a bad little list, and just $7 til 8pm. we tried the Sandia Limonada (minus triple sec), which was fruity and summery and would be perfect on a hot day at the beach, and The Bradford (with vodka instead of gin), which was really good and cucumbery (my fave). definitely a winner of a girl-time spot.

*passion. i love how people arrange words sometimes into the most beautiful sentences and phrases you’ve ever read, and all you can do is sit in awe of how mere words can make you feel…and wish to God you’d thought to pen those words yourself.

this totally speaks to me, for i am one of the over-enthusiastic. i get excited about, well…pretty much everything.
and i won’t apologize for that. 🙂

*this sign in McSorley’s, the oldest bar in NYC (quite a tourist haven, which i finally visited for the first time this week). i want this sign in my house.

also, i have to announce the winner of my first Color Me Rad giveaway today as well!

congrats to Lindsey, who won the first registration i’ll be giving away for the various Color Me Rad races coming up this summer and fall.

Your turn…

GIVEAWAY: Color Me Rad 5K!

you guyyyyys, i have some exciting, colorful news for you today!

whether you consider yourself an avid runner or are just starting to get interested in the idea of races, my guess is that you’ve heard about the fun and fabulous colorful race trend that has popped up all over the place and gained mega attention in the past couple of years. there’s no denying that these races add an exciting twist to running, and although i’ve yet to do one myself, i love the concept of starting a race all in white and ending as a rainbow! how cool is that?

meet Color Me Rad. and with a website boasting to deliver an event that will brighten your day “when Zoloft and balloon animals can’t seem to raise your spirits,” i mean, who can go wrong?

i’ve teamed up with the awesome crew at Color Me Rad to help promote the upcoming races they’re holding here in the NYC/NJ area.  i mean, whether you love to run or not, you have to admit: this looks like one big colorful party! i think most of us can get on board with that. 🙂

so, a little about the Color Me Rad 5Ks (3.1 miles):

What is that paint stuff, anyway? glad you asked. “this is non-toxic, non-rash-inducing, Kroger branded, colored cornstarch. with corn subsidized by the government and processed in the good o’l US of A, these blasts of starch will change your color and your demeanor but never your safety or health.” so basically, you can put this in your food, or wear it as makeup, or roll around in it to dye your clothes. you’re safe.

I totally want to do this. How do i sign up?
